Cooperstown Trading Pin Ordering Guide

How many trading pins should your team order? What size makes the best impression? And when should you get started?

Whether you're heading to Cooperstown Dreams Park or All Star Village, we'll help you plan the quantities, sizes, and creative features that make trading pins one of the most memorable parts of your team's experience.

The Cooperstown Experience

More Than Just a Baseball Tournament

Your players are headed to Cooperstown for baseball, friendships, and memories that last a lifetime. Trading pins are a huge part of that experience.

Players meet teams from across the country, exchange pins, and build collections representing their time at Cooperstown. It's part treasure hunt, part souvenir collection, and a whole lot of fun!

The most memorable trading pins aren't necessarily the most expensive ones. They're the pins that bring something different to the table.

Creativity, uniqueness, and planning ahead can make all the difference.

Step One: Quantity

How Many Trading Pins Should We Order?

For Cooperstown, we recommend starting with at least 100 trading pins per player. But the best way to plan your team's quantity is to find out how many teams will be attending during your tournament week.

First Question: How Many Teams Are Going?

One of our favorite rules of thumb is to look at the number of teams scheduled to attend Cooperstown during your week.

If there are 100 teams attending, that's roughly 100 different team designs your players could potentially encounter, assuming each team brings trading pins.

If there are more teams attending, consider increasing your quantity. Remember, your players may trade multiple times with the same team, seek out special editions, or make trades with coaches.

Our rule of thumb: Plan for at least 100 pins per player, and use your tournament week's team count to help determine whether you should order more.

100

Starting Minimum

Our recommended baseline per player for Cooperstown. A good place to begin your planning.

125–150

Active Traders

More flexibility for players who enjoy trading frequently and want to build a bigger collection.

150+

Serious Collectors

For enthusiastic traders, busy tournament weeks, and players who want to chase rare and unique designs.

Important: These are our recommendations for a fun trading experience, not official Cooperstown tournament requirements. You can adjust quantities to fit your team's plans and budget.

Don't Forget the Rest of Your Crew!

Your players aren't necessarily the only ones who will be trading. Make sure you account for everyone who wants to participate.

Coaches

Give your coaches their own trading allotment. Some coaches are casual traders, while others love collecting just as much as the players!

Siblings

Little brothers and sisters can get just as excited about trading pins. Set aside a separate supply so they don't have to borrow from the players.

Parents and Family

Baseball moms, dads, grandparents, and other relatives may want to collect, trade, or exchange pins with other families.

Team Extras

Keep a reserve for unexpected trades, lost pins, keepsakes, and that player who trades away everything by day two!

Our biggest quantity tip: It's better to plan your extras before the tournament than to discover halfway through that your players have run out.

Example: An 11-Player Team

Who People Pins Each Total Pins
Players 11 100 1,100
Coaches 4 20 80
Extra Reserve — 10% 118
Order Target 1,300

This example does not include additional siblings or parents. The estimate is rounded to the nearest 25 pins. Actual production quantities depend on your order specifications.

Do the Math

Suggested Total Order Quantity 1,300

Rounded up to the nearest 25 pins for planning purposes.

1,100 player pins + 80 coach pins + 118 reserve pins = 1,298 pins.

This is a planning tool, not an official tournament requirement. The number of teams attending is an estimate of possible trading opportunities, not guaranteed trades. Final pricing and quantities are confirmed with your quote.

Step Two: Size Matters

What Size Should Our Trading Pins Be?

Cooperstown trading pins aren't your average little lapel pins! The larger designs give you more room for creative artwork, bold lettering, and specialty features that help your team stand out.

Our recommendation: Start with pins that are at least 2.0 inches. Smaller pins can limit the amount of detail in your design and may not stand out among larger trading pins.
2.0"

The Starting Lineup

Our recommended minimum. Perfect for a bold, recognizable team pin with a clean design.

2.5–3.0"

The All-Star Choice

More room for mascots, creative silhouettes, detailed artwork, and fun upgrades. A great everyday trading pin size.

3.0–4.0"

The Hot Traders

Big, bold, attention-grabbing designs with room for elaborate themes, spinners, sliders, and other specialty features.

Want to go even bigger? Rare and limited-edition pins sometimes go beyond 4.0 inches! Oversized, unusual shapes and interactive elements can create a memorable collectible. Just keep in mind that size and special features can increase production costs.

Make Your Pins Stand Out

Be Different. Be Creative. Be Trade-Worthy.

Cooperstown is filled with incredible trading pins, and you want your team's design to be one that other players remember.

Think beyond simply putting your logo on a circle. Your team's personality, hometown, mascot, colors, and favorite baseball traditions can all inspire a truly unique trading pin.

Creative Shapes

Instead of a basic circle, think about custom silhouettes, state outlines, mascots, baseball equipment, or shapes that connect with your team identity.

Spinners, Sliders & Danglers

Add something that moves! Spinning baseballs, sliding players, and dangling elements are fun ways to give your design extra personality.

Glitter, Glow & Specialty Effects

Glitter enamel, glow-in-the-dark details, translucent colors, and specialty finishes can turn ordinary artwork into something memorable.

Rare & Limited-Edition Pins

Some teams create a main trading pin along with limited-edition, coach, or oversized rare designs. Special colors and unusual features make these especially fun to collect.

Here's the secret: A great trading pin tells a story. Whether it's funny, creative, interactive, or just completely unexpected, uniqueness matters!
Step Three: Plan Ahead

When Should You Order Your Cooperstown Pins?

The answer is simple: the sooner, the better! Cooperstown season is an extremely busy time for custom baseball trading pins. Planning early gives you more flexibility and helps avoid unnecessary stress.

Three Months Ahead? Great Idea!

We recommend starting the ordering process at least three months before your Cooperstown trip.

Even earlier is better, especially if you're planning large orders, multiple pin designs, or specialty features.

During peak season, production schedules can fill quickly. The sooner your design is approved and your order is placed, the more flexibility you'll have.

1

3+ Months Before Cooperstown

Start gathering ideas! Decide on your team theme, estimate quantities, set your budget, and request your artwork. Earlier is even better.

2

Finalize Artwork and Quantities

Share designs with your team, request revisions, choose your pin size and upgrades, and approve your order. The sooner you finalize, the sooner production can be scheduled.

3

Production and Shipping

Your custom pins need time for manufacturing, quality checks, and shipping. Specialty designs may require additional production time. Busy-season schedules can be especially tight.

4

Count, Divide, and Pack!

Once your pins arrive, check quantities, divide them among your players, coaches, siblings, and parents, and set aside your extra reserve. Now you're ready for Cooperstown!

Don't wait until the last minute! Artwork revisions, manufacturing, and shipping all take time. Starting early is the best way to give your team more design options and a comfortable delivery window.

Step Four: Your Budget

Build a Smart Trading Pin Budget

The cost of your team's pins depends on quantity, size, design complexity, and any specialty features. Ordering larger quantities can often help reduce the cost per pin.

01

Quantity Comes First

Start by making sure your players have enough pins. Then add coaches, siblings, parents, and reserves.

02

Invest in a Unique Design

A standout pin doesn't need every available upgrade. Creative artwork, bold colors, and an interesting shape go a long way.

03

Consider Rare Editions

If the budget allows, create a smaller quantity of specialty pins with extra features or larger dimensions.

Bonus Tips

A Few Tips From the Trading Pin Dugout

Don't Hand Out Every Pin on Day One

Some teams divide their trading pins into daily allotments so players don't burn through their entire supply at the beginning of the tournament.

Keep a Team Reserve

Having extra pins on hand can help with lost pins, unexpected trades, and enthusiastic players who run low before the week is over.

Make Your Team Recognizable

Bold colors, a readable team name, and a distinctive silhouette can help your pin stand out from across the trading area.

Save One for the Memories

Encourage your players to save at least one of their team's own pins as a keepsake. It's a little souvenir from a big baseball adventure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Cooperstown Trading Pin FAQs

How many trading pins should each player bring?

We recommend at least 100 trading pins per player. Check how many teams will be attending your tournament week and consider ordering more for enthusiastic traders.

Why does the number of teams attending matter?

Each attending team could represent a different design your players may want to collect. The weekly team count is a useful planning benchmark, although it doesn't guarantee a trade with every team.

Should we order pins for siblings, parents, and coaches?

Yes! If other family members and coaches want to participate, include them in your quantity planning instead of taking pins out of the players' allotments.

What is the minimum size you recommend for Cooperstown pins?

We recommend starting at 2.0 inches. Many elaborate designs fall between 2.5 and 3.0 inches, while larger hot-trader and rare pins frequently use 3.0 to 4.0 inches or even larger sizes.

What makes a trading pin desirable?

Uniqueness is a big part of what makes trading fun. Creative shapes, interesting artwork, movement, glitter, glow effects, and unusual themes can help a pin attract attention.

Can we create special rare or coach pins?

Absolutely! Some teams order a main trading pin along with smaller quantities of limited-edition, oversized, or specialty coach designs.

When should we start ordering?

Three months ahead of your tournament is a great starting point, and earlier is even better. Cooperstown season can be extremely busy for custom trading pin production.

Can we add glitter, spinners, sliders, or danglers?

Yes! These specialty features can add personality and make your design unique. Availability, production time, and additional cost depend on your artwork.

Does Cooperstown require every player to have 100 pins?

No. The 100-pin recommendation is our suggested planning minimum for a good trading experience, not an official tournament requirement.
